These are the best units I can get right now (with the exception of Azure Dragons who I want to try, but won't get for another 10 turns). And 6 Medium Tiger & Panther cavalry (if I can't afford Heavy Imperial Cavalry).

6 Heavy Spears & Shields (or Heavy Glaive infantry), 3 or 4 defenders of the earth or heavy crossbowmen if I can't afford them, and 2 or 3 Trebuchets. My armies follow a similar pattern because it's the best pattern I've found so far, ticks a lot of boxes. Wu is basically tiny, Lui Bei has been confederated by me, Yuan Shao is the only remaining Emperor seat, but after trading territory with him to make peace to buy me some time he currently loves me, so I'm pouring all my efforts into beating Meng Huo and Mulu into submission, which is ironically harder than facing a snowballing Wu for me for some reason. My economy is fine, because I've finally wrapped my head around the way this economy system works. So I rule nearly two-thirds of China with Cao Cao, thanks to some really decent confederations.

There's just not much I've been able to do against purple Nanman light infantry with a charge bonus of 250+ who can out charge my cavalry (even when my cavalry are charging them), or the fact they seem to be able to embark a river, disembark a river, move two provinces of distance, and attack a city all in the space of one movement turn, or their near limitless armies where I can't even beat one fully stacked Nanman army with two fully stacked armies of elite units without a pyrrhic victory and another Nanman army turning up to wipe them both out the moment I barely win through the skin of my teeth. The late game Nanman are a nightmare, I'm really starting to not like this game and I can't tell if they're just ridiculously overpowered or I'm just doing something wrong and need to change my approach. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, just looking for some advice regarding fighting the Nanman late game with the Han. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.846 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai.
